The DFG (German Research Foundation) has announced on 9th November, that the International Research Training Group 2657 "Computational Mechanics Techniques in High Dimensions (CoMeTeNd)" will be funded until 2025. The funding allows to continue a cooperation between researchers of École normale supérieure (ENS) Paris-Saclay and Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), which has been initiated in 2010 with the first IRTG 1627 "Virtual Materials and their Validation (ViVaCE)".

Extract of the LUH press release from 09th November 2020 (translated):

"We are very pleased that the approved funding gives us the opportunity to continue the successful teamwork of the last ten years and to deepen the successful cooperation between the two universities", says Professor Udo Nackenhorst, spokesman for the new Research Training Group.

The focus of the research lies on Model Reduction Methods especially for non-linear and high-dimensional problems which, based on physical principles, enable real-time simulations or fast parametric studies for optimization tasks, etc. These are used for example in the prognosis of fatigue of engineering structures to the stochastic evaluation of processes below the earth''s surface to tools that enable patient-specific surgery planning on tablet computers.
