A micro-mechanically motivated approach for modelling the oxidative aging process of elastomers

The goal of the project is to establish a model for the aging behavior of rubber compounds based on a molecular statistic approach. Such a model will account for the elastic behavior of the polymer network, for damage of the network structure through the Mullins effect, and for the aging behavior in terms of network degradation and post-curing. Moreover, the local aging evolution will account for the chemical oxidation process and the oxygen diffusion process within the rubber part. A suitable transfer of these approaches into a spatial formulation will finally enable finite element computations of complex rubber geometries.
